MONSTERTECH HOTAS mounts: desk, chair & compatibility
Plan a comfortable position for your joystick and throttle. This buying checklist explains what to check before choosing MONSTERTECH desk mounts, chair mounts and device plates.
Desk mount, chair mount or cockpit?
Start with your workspace: should your controls stay with the desk, move with your chair, or live in a dedicated cockpit? A suitable mount gives your stick and throttle a repeatable position. A comfortable setup still depends on your desk, chair and reach.
Desk mount
A useful option for a fixed desk that alternates between gaming and work. Check the clamp area, desk edge and leg clearance.
Chair mount
A useful option when the controls should move with your seating position. Check the exact chair model, adapter, armrests and movement clearance.
Dedicated cockpit
A useful option for a permanent multi-device setup. Include space for getting in and out, pedals, monitors and cable routing.
Choosing a mount for VKB, Virpil or Thrustmaster
Match the exact device, not just its brand. A product family can contain different bases, throttles and extensions. Write down the full model name and check the current mounting-plate listing. The same process applies to Winwing and other flight-control brands.
- Identify the hardware: note the stick base and grip separately, and the exact throttle variant.
- Match the plate: the mounting pattern must fit your actual base. A photograph of a similar device is not enough.
- Plan the height: sit in your normal gaming position and check the entire control travel with relaxed shoulders.
- Allow for extensions: long extensions and heavy grips change leverage. Follow the load and use instructions for the specific product.
- Check the cables: leave enough movement for full control travel and chair rotation.
What to measure before buying a HOTAS desk mount
- Desk thickness at the actual clamp position.
- Underside rails, drawers or cable channels that might obstruct the clamp.
- Rounded or bevelled edges and the available contact surface.
- Clearance around your thighs and knees at the intended sitting height.
- Space for your keyboard, mouse and access to the monitor.
Compare your measurements with the current product specifications. Ask the manufacturer about suitability before mounting to glass, delicate surfaces or unusual desk constructions.
Planning HOTAS and HOSAS positions
HOTAS combines a stick and throttle; HOSAS centres on two sticks. Plan both sides together. Different heights or distances can make you twist in your chair. Check the travel of angled grips and whether your left hand can still reach the keyboard and other controls.
Start by mounting the hardware you already have. Add keyboard or mouse surfaces when they improve the way you actually play and work.
Chair adapters and everyday use
Check the adapter and attachment points for your specific chair. Then consider standing up, rotating, rolling and moving back to the desk. A stable installation should still let you get in and out comfortably.
For a complete sim-chair setup, see our MONSTERTECH Drake MFC and haptics hands-on review (German). That review complements this buying checklist; it does not replace the compatibility check for an individual mount.
Questions before buying
Do I need a mount to play Star Citizen?
No. Your controls need to be stable and comfortably reachable. A mount can help when the height, stability or position on your current desk is inconvenient.
Does every MONSTERTECH plate fit every joystick?
No. Select the plate for your exact device and check the current compatibility information. The brand or a similar case shape is not sufficient.
